Idea Kitchen was a composers’ series organized in conjunction with Steve Cannon & Gathering of the Tribes on the Lower East Side that ran from 2007 to 2008 as an unfunded musician initiative for musicians & interested listeners to create one setting where musicians could share ideas & learn from each other, where compositional ideas could get worked out in a public domain among a variety of personalities & dispositions. For listeners, this was about demystifying music & especially oriented toward dispelling attitudes that creative & original musics are somehow “hard” to listen to. The monthly series featured 8 different composers, each of whom brought something distinctive for those who came to both play & talk about.
